2nd Filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
New AC110 should be here sometime this week...should I seed it with some of the biomax from my existing AC110 or just throw the new filter on the tank and let it build bacteria on it's own?

No need to seed it. Drain some water from your tank into a bucket and rinse the media in it before installing. A good rinse with tank water is much better than tap. It should build bio on its own just fine. :)

Ahh, good idea with the tank water to rinse the new media...didn't think of that! I'll hold off on this weeks water change till the new filter gets here.

My 2nd AC 110 arrived today and I was reading the box and it said if you run them at a reduced flow rate the water is filtered more thoroughly is there any truth to that? If it's accurate should I just run them both on low since they're on a 55 gallon?

Both are setup with the stock media, but I've replaced the carbon with 2 layers of Marineland bonded poly pad.

Really depends on the stocking to be honest. If you are not overstocked, then by all means run on lower settings.

Right now there is a 3.5" Tiger Oscar, 3" Gold Severum and 3" Green Terror which I know will be grossly overstocked when they get bigger, but not sure at their sizes now if it would be considered overstocked. Either way I'm working on getting a 110 or 125 gallon within the next month or so. I'll just run them on high...might as well use all that power :)

The 6ft 125 would be best and I would run them full with that stock. Oscars are not very clean eaters and just remember powerheads are your friend once you get the larger tank.
