2 2028 will run you $312 not $280 (this does not account for tax)

packing a fx5 full of scrubbies (open scrubbies to fill misses space) as well as filterfloss will cost you another $20 or so.. so even on the highside of ebay thats $240 for the fx5...

either way... its pretty much more of a "what do you want to do" sorta deal... i personaly want an fx5 just so i can say that i have one... however for less than $100 i can build a sump that will do just as well of a job with no down side...
Personally I think sumps and wet/dry's have alot more positives than canisters, but if you must go with a canister I would go with 2 eheims. Eheims are already extremely reliable and 2 will almost eliminate chances of failure, plus eheim media is the best around. Pot scrubbies aren't even close in terms of surface area as substrat pro and are more suited towards sumps and wetdrys. A fx5 with scrubbies and floss is nothing more than a glorified mechanical filter, albeit a 240 dollar one when 2 aquaclears would be the same mechanically.

A FX5 packed full of scrubbies has less surface area for bio then a eheim 2215 w/ a liter of ehfisubstrat. Scrubbies are such a poor choice for biological media in a canister filter.

i suggest get one 2028 and one FX 5. that's what i did on my 120 gallon. i have an inline heater attached to my 2028. i really enjoy the sprayer bar on the 2028 it provides good surface agitation and i like the sound of rushing water. i use the FX 5 for all the extra circulation. i like the variety the 2 give me. the impeller on the FX 5 is a lot better then the 2028, i know that's for sure!! both will last along time though; im definitely a fan of both.

...but which one looks coolest?

the 2028 looks more professional, the FX 5 looks like a ***en garbage can:ROFL:

its behind closed doors, i don't care what either of them look like as long as they keep my fish alive and happy. however, space wise the FX 5 is awkward to position at times for some.
