Nearly a five hour drive (round trip) last week to exchange the 2.5" tubular steel we purchased in November for 3.5", which the tank salesman insists we need for our stand.

Monster stand for a monster tank. $,1,156.50 difference in price, including the $152.00 we ate returning the 2.5" metal.

What is the wall thickness? You're going to need a forklift to move the stand.

Ha! We need a forklift to move the tank! 1.25" acrylic sides and front, 1.5" bottom and top.

I'm sure you could have probably used 2.5" and been fine. Heck, you could have used wood as well.

Dang. Gonna be a beasst. I just finished welding a couple stands today. two double ninety gallon stands and a triple 55/75/90 stand for a buddy. We used 1.5" tubing, 1/8" wall thickness. I'm excited to get them painted and move them into my fishroom.

There was that little problem with the "lifetime" warranty.....I could not risk jeopardizing that, although if the tank leaks, I'll probably eat it anyway. And yes, I agree with you, the 2.5" should have worked. We ran our stand plans by our engineer, who said it would be more than strong enough. Oh well...

What we really wanted to do was a reinforced cinderblock/concrete stand, because it is going to be an in wall tank. Salesman did not like that idea either, although another salesman for a big name tank company said that is what they do for large in wall tanks. At this point, it's all about the tank warranty.
