3.5" tubular steel

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Cutting straight through was not the problem. The 45 degree angle cuts were the problematic ones. We also have two grinders being used, after cutting and after welding each joint.

Welding in the rain won't fly.

Somewhere I've got a picture of me welding in the rain. I taped an umbrella to the welder to keep it dry, but then didn't have anything for myself :D

I can't wait to see this thing done. It is going to be EPIC!

I can't wait either. But we have such a long ways to go. The tank was ordered in August. It took until January to get plans, then the building permit approved. Everything is slow slow slow, and we have to work around the rains. Tank was delivered 2/24/10 to the local movers storage facility where it will be until we are ready for it. The mover and the contractor agreed that the tank can be moved in through a window opening. Don't drop my tank. Don't drop my tank. Please don't drop my tank.

Such a long way to go. Fish room will be on the left in the old garage space. New garage on the right. Such a long way to go. We're in our 2nd week of rain.

Long time before the tank comes home.

I grew up in Southern California. I don't miss it. Here's the view from our back yard

There are a few downsides living here, like the occasional bear raiding the garbage cans. And at least five brazen raccoons who stole the outside cat's food are now park rangers in a nearby National Park.:) We could never do an outside pond here--the local wildlife would camp permanently on our property and take advantage of the free lunch.:):)

Actually, I do consider myself very fortunate to live here. Instead of congested freeways, I have to drive through several miles of redwood groves to go to work or go any where.

whats wrong with welding in the rain. its in the welding books. they say its fine. ive weld wet steel.

The stand was built and has been taking up space in my parents' garage for the last 5 1/2 months. Had to take pics of it so the metal fabricator can give us an estimate on painting/powder coating it. We'll need a forklift to move it. Looks ugly now, but should look considerably different after painting/powder coating. It is a real beast 15' x 4' x 2'.

The windows for our building project have been ordered. The stand and tank have to be moved in before the last windows go in.

Our building project has been a monumental project for my two DIYers.
