i purchased a 1" figure8 puffer for my 30gal tank at work. he looked healthy when i got him home. at the time the water was fresh water. so before i drip aclimated him i raised the sg to 1.002. then i acclimated him for 2 hours. all was good until i went to work this morning to feed him. he was in tank alone. i tested the water.

ph-7.6
ammo-0
nitrite-0
nitrate-5
sg.1.002

he was eating shrimp on friday like a pig. raw frozen market. i left a small piece in the tank for him to eat yesterday. maybe it fouled and he got sick off it?

other then that i dont think i did anything wrong. maybe just one of those things that happens. any input?

the lfs was keeping him in freshwater salt btw..i used marine salt.

If the shrimp fouled, it would have showed up as ammonia. When did you take those tests?

I took the tests this morning. No ammo at all

I highly doubt feeding him shrimp caused it to die. I meant if the shrimp spoiled.

I've had the same thing happen when I bought a baby Oscar. Nothing was wrong, really, but he died within a day anyway. I think some fish are accidentally injured when being netted, and other stressors just take their toll.

What kind of salt did you use? Marine?

maybe some stress?

If he was new fish he could've been stressed or a lot of movement in a new enviroment. Like aro's stress over movement he could've been stressing over that
