The media setup looks good IMO.

If you are getting direct sunlight though, i would recommend a UV sterilizer for the tank.

looks great i have a similar setup on my 125 gallon tank. one note though i was using one of those clear tubs and one day i had a huge water spill because it sprung a leak that i could not find. i ended up getting a heavy duty black plastic tub that is much stronger and has run for about a year now with no issues

Personally the free light I'd consider a blessing for filter media. Some weird folks spend lots of money and time setting up algae filters, you'll get some of those benefits for free! And should a piece of algae break loose and make it to your tank the fish will get a desert. When algae falls of my OTB filter the duboisi go crazy.

Okay sorry to be the noob....
But I want to do this, and have no prior knowledge. When it comes to your overflow, how exactly does that work? Can you take pictures of it coming from your tank... and how you make it overflow?

Okay I kinda answered my own question after hours of reading... haha
anyways, i like your idea of using two seperate drawers.. Could you do one of these drawer systems on the left side, one on the right side?
also, what pump did you use, where did you get it?

yeah you can put as many of them as you could fit round your tank, iv used a pond pump as its not a sw tank so no need to worry about the impellar getting clogged with salt and i just got it from my local lfs
