Hello Everyone ,

Is it possible to keep a female festae , oscar and a jaguar in one tank with out them killing each other? The tank would be 6ftx2ftx2ft.

Also should I go with gravel or sand?

I have had an African cichlild and marine tank previously just new to big south american fish.

Any other advice would be apprciated.

Thanks in advance :)

J.

you could likely do those 3 together, and more. one thing you might want to watch out for, the oscar getting bullied.

sand looks better and is in some respects easier to clean but needs sifting weekly.

I would personally drop the oscar from the list. Even though they are great fish, they arn't as aggressive compared to the other two on your list. I would go with a midas or a mota. oh, and welcome to mfk.

welcome to mfk!

you can keep those 3 described above with a tank that size but as others mentioned, oscar will get bullied (depends on size). Personally, i'd go w/ a festae pair rather than the oscar....but hey I know lots of people love em oscars!

As for substrate, sand looks better and maintenance is much easier imho

I agree^^

The oscar won't be able to hold is own with those 2.

Those 3 are good for that setup, I had a Oscar and he was akward if anything go with a GT he would hold is own!

Welcome to MFK's. I think it could work. It will just depend upon if your oscar turns out to be a sissy or not. I've seen them with worse fish and and do OK and I've seen oscars that would get killed with the other 2 fish you want. If you aquascape it with lots of hiding places and line of site breaks I think you will be fine. Just be ready to remove the oscar incase you get unlucky. As other have mentioned you could probably have a couple more fish and there are tons of great options to pick from.

Good luck.

I think it would do fine, I have an Oscar in with a Loisellei and a Dovii, hes been with GT's, Dempseys, Jaguars, Festae, Carpinte, and hes done perfectly fine with all em

I´ve kept an Oscar with a Jaguar without problems but the Oscar was much bigger and ruled the tank.
If it was the opposite I´m sure the oscar would be in serious trouble.

I think you would be just fine with those three in a 180+ tank. Jaguar's aggression is often grossly overrated. As long as you decorate to give him his own little territory, you should be ok with him. The Oscar will grow so much faster than the female Festae, it will be a long time before you have to worry about those two. I've kept several Festae and Jags together in the past with no problems. There's always a chance you'll get a super aggro fish but chances are good they'll cohabitate fine.
