i would get a betta, except i already have a bunch, and i wanted to try something new. the dario darios are cool but they dont have them at the local fish store :( can i put a female platy, a female molly, and the 2 small guppies in there like the pet store suggested? if i did how long woulod they live like that? would they get aggressive?

sure but just make sure the guppies are of the same sex or you will end up with a LOT of babies

ya the guppies are both female. they are pregnant now so thts how im sure but when they get closeer im going to put them backin the big tank so that there babies will be eaten by the bigger fish then ill put them back in the 3 gal a day later. (the big tank is 30 gallons)
so all the fish in the 3 gallon will be females which i heard are more aggressive. also in the tank i have a light, but it is not the right light to grow live plants. will the plants die right away?

The plants I listed thrive in low light conditions. A good way to determine male livebearers from females is by looking for the gonopodium on the males. I don't recommend you move the females to your 30g just before giving birth. The last thing they need is additional stress of new surroundings and tank mates. I advise you invest in a breeder trap, something along the lines of these http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&...=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1440&bih=773, that could be bought at any fish store. Then after giving birth an recuperating, you could then add the babies to the 30g.

Also, on the bandis. My lfs carries them from time to time. I'm not sure about your area though.

Or, as I've often suggested for small setups, go to a pond and scoop up some muck and watch the fun. It's amazing the variety of critters you'll see sprouting out of apparently nowhere. I got scuds, daphnia, hydra, cyclops and fly larvae. It was more entertaining than a reef tank.

lol that sound cool :) i have a fake castle in the tank so on either side of it im going to put a java fern :) and possibly carpet the tank with java moss. how long will it take the moss to spread over the whole bottom of the tank? i dont get how you do that. also should i use a substrate? if so which kind? i also heard that mollies like to eat greens. will they eat my live plants?

I would suggest you spread the java moss across the barebottom of the tank, then put a netting over it. Make sure you weigh it down with some gravel around the edges so your fish can't get underneath it.The java moss will grow on and through the netting and in a few months the entire net will be carpeted in java moss. :D Mollies might pick at the plants, but both java fern and moss are hardy. Make sure to post some updates of how the tank turns out too.

of course i will :) where do you think i should get the netting? how do you buy java moss? do you tell the the employee how big the bottm of your tank is and do they cut that ammount out? where can i get the netting for that? also can i use a syphon on the moss so that i can get the gunk off of it?

that idea sounds perfect :) ill do that then. ill put little riverstones in the corners too. is the java moss expensive? and i was wondering if i could put two riverstones on either side of the castle and attach java fern to them? or do i need something bigger to attach the java fern to?

would there be a problem if i got male platies? and possibly male mollies? i want the male platies because i heard that they get alot smaller then the female 1s. i was wondering if thre would be aggression issues? the reason i would also get male mollies is because i dont want babies. would that be problematic considering the guppies are both female?
