wow that really sucks.... thats the main reason i dont own a gulper they are a bottomless pit of a stomach..

Damm... I was thinking about getting one too.. but after seening this, i'm think twice..

My two are 6-7" now... They have had two comets in with them that are 5" and won't touch them.. They only want HUGE food.

Thank you for posting this.....I too have seen gulpers with smaller fish (relativley smaller) and no problems, I was thinking about getting a little one like yours, and now I am SO not going to.
Look at that things' ridiculous belly, I knew they could eat things "twice" their size, but now I know it's more than true :WTF:. Sorry about your loss, leichartdi are really cool aros

All i can say is that empathize with you man... my gulper cat also ate my 14 inch long nosed gar this morning. I never thought it was possible but sure enough one of my gulper cat had something shaped like the head of a gar in its stomach.

Strangely, the gar was with my cats for over 2 weeks and nothing happened before...
Someone didn't get his breakfast that morning  I'm sorry for both of your losses. BTW, does the first name GULPER rings a bell? Add the last name CATFISH to it...:headbang2

Definetly my stupidity I should have chosen his tankmates better. I firmly believe Gulpers can be kept with other fish if they're deep-bodied or wide-headed. Trachycorystes, Pacu's, Silver Dollars and the like should be fine with a Gulper. Slender bodied fish ie: Aro's, Poly's and pikes are too easily bent in half by the Gulper and then ingested.

Sorry for your loss man thats tough. I just had my 9 1/2 inch ornate bichir eat one of my 6 1/2 inch Hujenta gars that I've had for almost a year. These things happen but your situation is extreme. I don't want to rub it in but I honestly think that your picture has to be the Photo of the Month hands down!
