3 guppies in a ziploc . . . . water tests fine?

Just to put it out there, at petco you need to bring back the fish, water sample, and receipt. Testing the water is supposedly for the customers benefit. It doesn't determine whether or not the customer gets a refund/exchange. Its stupid and majority of the time people bring in the water with fish in it. But its also the most misunderstood concept because what is there to test for? In most cases the tank is brand new and it doesnt take a test to tell you the cycle process, where the high levels are going to be there with these overstocked, thoughtlessly made tanks.

And it hurts to see the "fish specialist" of the store, test someones water when they have just set up the tank and say "well everything is fine, all levels at zero, you are fine to put fish in." At this point the customers thinks its fine to load up the tank...

In my honest opinion, there should be no warranty on fish, and I have never used such a warranty. If the fish was healthy when it left the store, you have no complaint. If the fish wasn't healthy, you should have inspected the fish before you agreed to buy it.

+1

When I worked at the pet store I'd say 80% of people brought dead fish in with their water to be tested...then again it's Georgia and most of the state is retarded. Once I explained to them I couldn't really test their water they would get mad and leave...it's a shame really.

It's not just a Georgia thing. Unfortunately, I think it's the norm across the states. I wouldn't say 80% brought the fish in their water here, but it was significant (despite verbal reminders and signs posted about every 5ft inthe store telling what to do if a fish died...)

And if the chick was fugly you would've got your panties in a knot and tattled to the manager?
Pretty much. Something about a fugly girl dealing out fish just doesn't settle for me and it is my duty as a guy to rectify such situation :D

A lady at petsmart returned a dead fish once. When the assistant asked why it died the lady said "I don't know, I kept it in my bathroom sink while I set up the tank. I cleaned the sink with soap and everything, so I know that isn't why it died." The assistant replied "oh, you're right. Must have been a sick fish, ill get you another one"

Sometimes hard-working knowledgable corporate pet store employees get sick and tired of incredible amounts of ignorance and stupidity and just play along with it. :)

It's easier to bag a couple guppies, than try to explain the nitrogen cycle to people with an IQ lower than that of the price of the fish.

Sure, it's not ethical or moral.. but like I've said before.. you can't cure ignorance.. I tend to gauge the situation, the customer's ability to comprehend information, and their willingness to want to learn that information..

If it seems like they don't care and I would be wasting my time, I just bag another fish.. If they actually care and want to know why their fish died and how to prevent it, I will give them more knowledge than they need..

If the customer dosn't care, than neither do I..

Well put, sometimes you just have to let it go. Or at the least say "the water isn'tready" or "it has to establish itself." Some sort of generalized blurb like that gets the point across. It doesn't have to make sense, nothing ever will to some people.
