Score! Even though he cost me a load, I managed to track down a baby L25 which I assume was domestically bred. As far as I know there's still a ban on their importation. I want to put some quick size on him and I was wondering if any experienced keepers had helpful hints. I don't keep track of my water parameters other than I do weekly massive water changes and the tank is very well filtrated and oxygenated. The temp stays around mid 70's. He has plenty of hiding spaces and I plan on feeding him mostly NLS jumbo fish formula and spirulina. Should I add extra protein like chopped mussel and prawns? Thanks in advance!

Few people are breeding the L25. So it is most likely to be a fish smuggled into colombia and shipped from there.

Clean water and a high protein diet is the way to make them grow "fast". feed twice a day and do as many water changes as possible. (no more than 30% a day).

Pics or it didn't happen:D

Man thatr is one of my dream fish! I always wanted one.How much was he??? PICS!!!!

Sounds like your doing everything right. Be easy on the prawns and shrimp. My lfs which is a pleco guru said it is not all that good in the long run for the pseuda's. NLS and water changes is the way to go. Best of luck on a great pleco. My lfs can get 4 inchers for $180 bucks. I have an adult L-114 which is similiar.

Well, here's the pudding. It's his first day in the new tank so I suppose this was the best shot I could've hoped for. I'll try to get better pics in the future. This is my 3rd L25 in the past 15 years and they all preferred the darkness of the night life over daylight, but I'm sure 'll get a lucky shot one of these days. I wouldn't be that worried about beefing him up quickly, but I have a 13 in. ornate bichir in the same tank who I'm not underestimating. Anyway, thanks all for the feedback. I hope to be able to keep this little guy until he's a ripe old man (or woman). With shipping he ran me about 200 bucks. I got mine from Thatfishplace and it's possible they still have more in stock. I know rkc from Infinite Aquatics used to get them in for super cheap, but that was a .few years back

Thanks! Good point about the slate, but after years of cichlid keeping I've learned how to make my rock formations pretty sturdy:). I'm more concerned about him not attracting the attention of my 13 in ornate bichir. He came in a bit smaller than I thought (aint that always the way)
