3 in. L25 Scarlet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You would think so, but I really think he's going to be OK. I've been observing them a lot and Boris (the bichir) really hasn't been paying him much mind. My Ornate has been completely raised on NLS pellets and doesn't seem to have the same predatory instincts as ornates and delhezis that I've owned in the past who I fed feeders on a regular basis. Of course, I tend to learn lessons the hard way as I had my last L25 baby get eaten by my managuense 2 years ago. I'm not tring to sound like a callous ignoraant ass, but really think this Scarlet is going to be OK. To be honest, if I had a spare grow out tank that's where he'd be, but I don't have any extra room right now. If I get the fool made again I'll come clean and admit it. I'm not a fan of looking like an idiot and using rare expensive fish as feeders.

Nice pickup there...
Give it time though, the ornate is still at the skinny side of his lenth... in the next few inches you should see him add alot of gerth.
I really like the L25's. Currently I have a L600(L114), not usually a pleco I am into but he's really growing on me;)

Lucky find man! Congratz. I've been looking for quite some time now and no luck. Keep a good eye on that Bichir with him because if anything happens we will all be mad at you lol. but most importantly, get more pictures up!!!

If that is true then why is planetcatfish.com saying 75.2-78.8°F for a L25 ?

I am not saying you're wrong, but I would like some accurate information from somewhere.

Rich is right, these guys like 80-86 temp.

I'd avoid prawn except as an occasional treat, not because it's not good for them but because they rasp their food and you are going to have one hell of a mess. Mine love bloodworms and brine shrimp. I've used cuttle fish successfully on occasion as well.

My opinion, I'd separate from the bichir. If he doesn't get eaten, his tail could at least be nipped at. Not a risk worth taking, considering that bichir is worth the fraction of the cost of that L25 in the long-run.
