I kept about 30 of the big Barred Midas babies. They range from 3 to 6 inches, total length. I just added 3 into the 300 for a reunion w/ their dad. They are 4.5", 5" and 6" w/ one remaining barred, one currently peeling, and one fully peeled. So far, 4 of the 30 have peeled or started peeling. There is also a shot of the 6" one (behind the catfish) along w/ some of the other Amphs go give you an idea just how big some of them are. I'm going to guess at least 12" on their daddy. So far, they are being tolerated, but I will keep a close eye, and likely won't keep them in there long term - rather pick the nicest for a future breeding project. I also have a pic of the 6" one when he was a baby - 9 months ago. I don't know if he is bigger b/c he was the sole one I couldn't catch and was left in a 135 for a while w/ his parents while the others all went to a 75 - or if he was just destined to be bigger.

That second to last pic, the Midas at the front? The dad? He is amazing looking, very jel.
Is that a female mota or a Freddy behind?

Yes, he's that dad, and thanks - below is a pic w/ his babies. He only gets really barred up when breeding or slightly barred when fighting me or my dog through the glass. The other fish is a female Freddy - close up pic below:

I'm not the biggest fan of amphs ,I don't know why. I have to say though that male is beautiful in every way. I really like the Freddie too.
Nice fish, all look very well cared for.

Thanks Stan - the shape (I’m a sucker for tall and stocky Fish) and personality is what draws me to many Amphs - most of their colors are more subtle, but beautiful in the correct light

Thanks, he's an F1 Arenal Barred Midas from Dan at COTA. Below is a pic of right after I got him from Dan, a little over 2 years ago. The second pic below was only 4 months later, so you could tell quick that he was going to be a looker, and a big boy. The 3rd below is another of him today. I love him as well, because he is a gentle giant. Search Amphilophus Amarillo vs Arenal Barred Midas on this site and you can see a few more pics of him growing up:
