I'd personally go with A. panamensis. Beautiful little (5") CA cichlid, pretty uncommon, easily bred.

No one likes to think outside the box. :(

I did with some Rarer Acaras. Not many people keep Acaras besides Pulcher but most don't keep Patricki, Diadema etc etc.

What is wrong with Discus in there??? Someone is kidding right??

I'd really prefer a single specimen in there such as the female sal, however I considered a single Discus and was advised against it.

Tank is 30 "long" = 36" x 12" front to back, not sure how high~ 15-16 inches maybe?

I was told they (Discus) prefer to be kept in groups and in a larger tank. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will definitely be looking into all of them as there are a few species, especially the Acara's mentioned by CROSS and I saw some jewels in a LFS last night while Christmas shopping

Anyone have Pics of the fish they've recommended? WOuld save me some time...

Thank you & MERRY CHRISTMAS

OK looked at all the suggestions and I'm really leaning toward a pair of Red Jewel Cichlids. The Nanoluteus are also interesting but I like the brillian red coloration of the mating pair of jewels.

Can they (Jewels) be kept in a pH of around 8-8.2? I see their recommended pH is 6.5-7.5

Thanks

I'd go with firemouths, they are cool i just got a pair.

I have a male in my 90 and have kept them in the past. i don't agree a 30 is an acceptable tank size for a pair of adult FM's

They are not an option at this point, thanks

Jewels adapt very well to differing PH conditions. We have two pair spawning in 7.8 PH and quite a number of growing fry. One of the pair is in a 29 gallon while the other is in a 55
