300 dd marineland tank blows a seam

The percentage of failures must be pretty low, otherwise I would get alot more hits on a Google search. Usually an unhappy customer goes to great lengths to voice their displeasure.

Oh I'm sure the failure percentage is low. But, talking percentages...we're on our third one and one of our LFS (in the same city) is on their third as well.

Probably all coming from same distributor, isolated batch?

this is interesting but I do remember reading something about a high failure in the 300 gallon dd tanks before. I'll look into it see what I can find

Even with the leaking issues we've had with our 2 previous 300 DD, we're still leaning towards getting either a 220 or 265 reef ready Marineland tank and stand in the next month.

honestly I'm a huge fan of their 265 gallon. It looks very nice and would make a great reef

I'd personally go with a different brand for sure after going through that. I've been comparing tanks locally and decided against Marineland before even seeing this thread because they don't look as well made as others.

if i wasn't reading this and visited someone on CL recently sold his 2nd 300 DD to my friend i wouldn't of know it that it has a potential of leak.. i would not go near another 300 DD again.. i'm leaning towards something from marineland since i DO NOT want to move these tanks that much... i need the width of these tanks compared to 24" wide tanks like the 180 or 220.. sucks that i have to search else where...

Well let me give you one piece of advice....be very carefull with Marineland DD Tank. I've been reefing for 32 years and in 32 years I had many tanks of different size....in 32 years I had 2 leakage...both of them happen in the last 3 years, both of them were Marineland DD tanks (200DD) Both tank were perfectly leveled and in both case a Silicon Seal blew. First Time we were lucky enough to catch the leakage kickly enough to prevent house damage but lost all the fish and corals ontop of the tank.....second one turned out catastrophic....it hapen overnight we were woke up by the smoke from the fire....cause the leak was large enough for the water to spray all over the back wall and created a electrical short in the outlet that cought on fire....we lost not only the tank but livestock, corals, apex controller etc.....house damage was huge, floor to replace, wall to be redone, electricity repair...and the list goes on and on....total cost....well not sure yet because after 2 months it's still not over...and Marineland insurance rep....Liberty Mutual is a real PITA to deal with.....Our house insurance even hired an Engineer to evaluate the tank and their report is saying that the tank is at fault, bad silicone.....so my advice if you want to waste your time and your money.....get a Marineland Tank....because they have mastered the art of screwing up big time.
