300 gal price ?

hey guys,

i havent really been on in a long time.
i have been super busy with school and work, amongst other things...
so i thought i'd pop back in and say hi.

Real reason im posting is that im looking starting to look for a larger tank for my ray, something in the realm of 300gal.
now i have seem a bunch of 300 gal tanks for sale over the years and never really took a look at the prices of them. in the past few weeks i have been to a few different shops and stores and i have seen some pretty crazy price difference.
for example at bigals they were selling a 300gal glass tank (just the tank) for $3000
and one of the local stores neer me has the same exact tank for $1995
both tanks are brand new.

now my question is this. is 2 grand way to much for a tank of this size ?
i know i could probably build a plywood tank for cheaper or get a fiberglass tub with a viewing window for alot less, but my tank is going to be a showpiece, therefor i want it to look nice.

so what do you guys think a decently priced 300gal is worth ?
or better yet, what have you guys seen them sell for?
keep in mind im in canada too, so pricing will be a bit different.

the price sounds about right! you may want to try and find a nice used tank somewhere! i see them all the time here and there usually between $500 to $1200 but keep in mind these are used tanks. but my lps are super expensive on tanks but i guess if you need it you will pay it!:nilly:
 
well i've actually never seen a used 300gal for sale.
largest i have ever seen for sale used is 125g :(
but ya i guess it never hurts to look for a decent used one.
 
from what i've seen lately, used should be around $2 to $3 per gallon for a med/large tank, depending on condition and extras. or think of it as 1/3 to maybe 1/2 of new tank price. just bought a 300 acrylic with sump for $500, but it needs some buffing to get it ready.
 
not sure where you are located,but near me my lfs has 300 gals around1300 brand new(i am in south jersey)just bought a 265 for $999(just the tank of course)
 
check craigslist. There's usually a couple around, especially if the price to beat is 3000. Good luck.

ya i talked with the owner of my local store that is selling for $1995
and he gets the tanks from down in the states he says he buys them for a little less than 1100 but then has to get them shipped up to canada, so therefor the price ends up being $1995 :(

i plan on building one eventually when i find a house i know im going to stay at. im thinking of a 10 or 12 foot by 4 foot by 3 or 4 foot.

but for now a tank is what im looking for.
 
seeing as you are in canada you might be screwed with nothing but high prices....
