I looked into 5 gallon bucket sumps among others before I decided to build one into the tank itself but I just noticed that at 12" across and 24" deep two buckets stacked up would fit inside the sump portion of the tank. It would still be self contained and a whole heck of a lot simpler to build and service. Theres actually space for two stacks of buckets in there but there wouldn't be any room for the pump. I'm going to take a look at other plastic totes and bins next time I go shopping to see what might fit in there better just in case I have issues building the one in the design or as a backup in case it doesn't work out after it goes into service.
