I finally made some progress on my 300 today.... What do you guys think? The stand is made from solid 2" x 6" all the way around. This thing is chunky......! The crossbraces are every 16" on center. I still need to add vertical 2" x 4"s on each end. I was planning to use 2" x 6" I already had but it would not leave me enough room to slide in the sump from the side, so change in plans for tomorrow. Sorry the garage is a mess, oh and the skinny dude in the pics is my buddy Clayton, not me. :grinno:

I still need to skin it, add the molding, add the plywood/styro but I am pretty happy with how it came out so far. Dims: 96" x 24" x 35" (L/W/H)

**pics are super high rez, click to zoom in :naughty:**

Clean build. Good lumber, Wish we could get quality lumber here in Vegas. Half the stuff here is so warped it is practically a circle

Thank you very much. Damn I wish you were closer bud, I would hook you up for free. I manage distribution centers for a living and these boards are what we use in the racking. I have 3,000+ of them since I am closing that building. I only bought the 8' lengths. Built it for $16 lol...

I am not good with carpentry and have not skinned a stand before. What would be the best type of wood to use on a budget (good looks, fair price)? I prefer stained over painted. If I skin the stand should I not add plywood to the top but use the "finish" wood insead? What do you guys think?

i just built a stand for my 180 and used 1/4" birch plywood to skin it. skinning is easy, just take your time with the trim. i used regular plywood for the top. hold on i will take a pic.

Thanks for the advice D. Do you mind my asking how much you paid for the birch ply/trim? Please do load a pic, would love to see. Thanks for doin that. ;)

first pic is a piece of 1/4" birch ($25 at HD for 4x8 sheet) that is unstained.

i painted my stand to match the tv stand, but stain looks good too on the birch. i stained it first but was no where near what i wanted it too look like so ended up painting it.

Stand looks great D, thanks for the pics. Good price too. I have to figure out what I want to do for doors as well because I want them to match but have 3 different lengths of openings. Oh well at least I got this tank started finallý....
