I am about to purchase a 300gal tank and was wondering what is the best way to filter it?

sump

overflows to a lower tank on the bottom filled with bio-balls etc. (you can look up sumps for diagrams/explanations)
For tanks that size, sumps are the best way to go.

What size tank should i use to build one, and do you links to any threads?

1/3 volume of tank for heavy bio-load
1/4 for normal load

So it kinda depends on your stock. But its always good to go bigger. That way if you change your stock later on, you wont be underfiltered.

so i would have to turn a 100 gal tank into a sump tank????:jaw:

sumps arent as complicated as they look.

You could just run a couple FX5's or something.

what about the pond filter? seems to be a bit easier.
