300 gallon basement pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should make it a bit deeper..wat is it about 15" now considering the insulation. Deeper will also help keep the temp stable if your basement doesn't have cc

Its at about 18" with the insulation, I originally planned it to be 30" and even have enough materials.. I just dont like how hard it is to see the fish in such deep water. the basement stays around 75F anyway so I figured it wouldent be hard to keep it where I want it

Ok cool cool. Will be a nice pond and with the saved materials you could even make a second! Lol

ya almost:D

the liner is coming tomorrow, I could add some more height before i put it in... does anyone have experience with a pond being too shallow?

Added Hightower is just a easy and effective means of adding volume which helps water quality. I mean my catfish won't use the whole 36" that I'm making my 1500 but it def helps. When in doubt always build bigger!

bigger is always better, but hopefully for smaller cichlids the footprint will matter most... I just dont like when the water is too deep to see the fish well in their natural behaviors, but might consider adding a few more inches

2ft max wouldn't be bad. Than you could add caves for the cichlids at several dif levels. Its something I'm doing in my pond...kinda like hi rise apartments for fish. Lol
