Been searching planetcatfish for any catfish that might be able to live in a 300 long term.
Tank is 96" x 30" x 24"

I would like a more traditional type catfish but what I am finding out that won't happen.

Leaning towards a giraffe catfish.

Filtration will be 3 FX5's.

What are y'alls opinions?

They are both really good looking cats, might have to end leaning that way just gotta save up some money, haha!
My local petstore has a marbled achara but not sure he'd do to well once full grown.
Feel bad for the fella since they have him in maybe a 125 and he's probably around 15" give or take.

My personal take is that you are limited by the width of 2.5' and hence on average can house a 1.25' TL fish in it, if an active swimmer then shorter, if mostly sedentary then a bit longer.

Look into Auchenoglanis cf. occidentalis Bouche. They don't exceed 1' by much: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=32248

They are 3.5"-4" at $35 right now at Dave's rare fish (w/o shipping) or this colleague of ours here is selling two 6"-ers that he's had for one year http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=42235#p287826

I have a 300 with same dimensions. I currently have a Bolt Cat and four-lined pictus in mine. In my opinion: Giraffe cats will get too big. To give you some ideas that ive had or looked into when stocking are: Lima Shovelnose, Vultures, Tigrinus, jurense, sun cat, bullheads, giant bumblebee and sturgeon cats. Hope this helps ya

Look into Lima Shovelnose. I absolutely love these cats. You could even keep 2-3 in a 300. A nice active fish and fun to watch/feed.

could give a worse home to a hemibagrus wyckii or albino hemibagrus nemurus
