300 Gallon Glass Build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
1) can I use 10mm glass on the tanks I want to build, given everything I have read the height is the important factor and this "should work".

2) Has anyone set up a duel tank stand with tanks this large before?

1. Yes, I actually come up with 9mm being needed, so 10mm should work. If you can get you hands on some 12mm, you'd have a little extra safety factor.

2. I cannot think of one off the top of my head.

thanks guys for the info. i am now more confident on starting this project. will let you know how it goes.

10mm glass is more than fine, this glass is very heavy though, who is cutting the glass, it should be lazer cut because if the cuts are not perfect there is uneven pressure along the seams, this will cause the tank to 'pop', the force of this glass breaking could kill anyone standing in front of it.

just speaking from experience, hope all goes well!

I am not an expert but considering both dimensions that you mentioned earlier I would go with 12mm glass to be safe, you could probably get away with 10 mm, but a good bracing are needed on the bottom and on the top. Although height is most concerned, but also beware of the length as the glass could bend.

12mm glass isnt necessary, although it is good to be safe, you dont want to waste your well earned money either, with good bracing it will be fine!

what would really be cool and interesting is if you could some how get heavy duty rolling rails. so you can pull your bottom tank out like a drawer about 6inches. i never seen that done before
