300 gallon male Jag, RTM and Festae tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That Festae is gonna just keep having a hard time. Unfortunately I just don’t think he has enough muscle to keep up with the jag and RTM.

How long have they been together? Have the RTM and Jag spawned yet?

Pretty recently. You recommend I move the Festae? The Festae and rtm are from within the last week. They have not spawned.

I mean, I suppose it depends on your moral standpoint. I try to be objective.

On one hand, there is the possibility that the Festae is what’s keeping your jag from beating on your RTM. therefor he is currently helpful as a punching bag. But that spells out a bad ending for the Festae eventually.

On the other hand, watching the Pretty male festae get beat on till he is frail and dies of stress is rather sad for me to think about.

You can try to keep all three if you use dividers, by leaving the dividers up and slowly test out removing them ect ect. It’s really not a fun process but it can be done.

I personally recommend rehoming the Festae and keeping a close eye on the Jag and RTM I would definitely have a divider ready Incase the relationship goes south.

All three are pretty fish I wish you luck whatever way you decide to go.

I purchased the rtm thinking it was a drab gold male and it has colored up drastically. Honestly, until you asked if it had spawned, I was still under the impression it was a male. My aim was to keep male species so they wouldn’t go nuclear on each other during spawning. I was also thinking of putting a group of male cons in there to act as target fish to spread the aggression.

Well looks like you are spot on. The rtm cleared out some sand and has an egg tube dropped all of a sudden. I’m moving the Festae to a 5 foot 75 by itself until I get my 125 resealed and up and running and I will move it in to that. Thanks for the heads up.

If the RTM is a female I agree that they normally would have more red. It may be a freddy as mentioned, either way a nice fish.
Your jag looks great man. I bet you can get him to live with some other fish in a 300. I would try the male cons if you can find some nice 5-6"ers. I would put no less than 3 in at once.
