300 gallon set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, they already know what's going to be inside this tank. Outside of studying my house life, their favorite hobby is watching the fish.

That calico, Ete, tried to sniff the powerdrill while I was putting the stand together haha.

Great news, a 125 gallon (to be used as a sump) is being delivered to me right this second! I'll post some pics. In the mean time, check out this brilliant box my sump pump was shipped in:

I'm guessing this got searched on the way to my house.

Good idea to hold out for the 125 sump.

What is that between the bottom of the tank and the top of the stand?

Good news/Bad news. The tank I will be using as a sump was just delivered, but its a 135g instead of a 125g, and has three extra inches of height. I'm going to be cramped when doing maintainance, so I might be going with a k3 bed and an additional filter sock slot to ensure I won't have to get inside the sump all too often.

This picture does a poor job of showing the size differences. I will have 5" of clearance to work with. Looks like I'm using hose instead of PVC.

I also had to remove a bit of bracing from inside the stand, but a plywood facade/sides will more than make up for that. I might add additional bracing somewhere for peace of mind.

This tank was previously a reef tank (as was the 300) so I spent my night scrubbing away cake after cake of algae. There's a great reef club in Atlanta, with a community that sells to other members at generous prices. My girlfriends brother is a reef fanatic, so he got me involved for dem' deals~

If your set on the height of the viewing of your show tank than your screwed on maintenance of sump bit 3-4" doesn't matter than I have a solutions.. I have this problem with my stand because my door only allows me bring in a 29"h stand so what I had to do is place a 2x4 flat to get an extra 1.5" higher.. if not enought slot it till the height you'll need to maintenance that sexy sump..

I cant make the stand any bigger because then it wont fit out the door when I move in two years. Presently it has a half inch of clearance. The beams along the bottom prevent me from placing the sump directly on the ground.

I cant wait until this weekend! I should get a great deal of work done.

if it's a GLASS tank why you want to put a piece of plywood under the tank?? if you really want just a center brace on the stand...i'm not too sure but why so many top braces on the stand's stop?? can't you get away with 3 (4x4)?? if you can then take out the plywood and add another another layer of 4x4 to the top of stand so you have another 3.5" of work area to clean your show tank.. i have pic of my stand... hope that helps...

The plywood between the top of the tank and stand provides stability, and allows me to place polystyrene between the tank and stand. I will also be adding doors. I want it to look like a nice piece of furniture when I am done.
