300 gallon setup/sump build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes prep as much as you can before she's due. Just set your mind what you want to do and do it. There are so many ways of doing things. Once baby arrives ur tie down to him or her. LoL. Only reason I have my heater in the sump return pump section is that I added a controller within the ranco so when my pump shuts off.. the controller shuts off. Now since drip is added, automatic valve to that setup so not just heater I got the valve close when pump shuts off. That is why I hold off buying the DC pump so long.

Drip will definitely be part of phase two

I would wash those outside even if I have a slap sink in the basement.

Haha of course man... even 1 grain on the bathroom floor and she'll complain

Looking forward to watching the progress. My 300 is very similar. 2 corner overflows. My sump is chambered though. I have 2 bulkeeads in ea. overflow. Large one is drain, smaller is really un used. My pump return is external to the left top of the tank into a spray bar. Heaters are in chamber before pump chamber. Have a .5 gph drip into top middle of tank. Drain through side of tank to drain outside. Sump cant overflow

Im looking forward to it too lol
Spoke to the builder today ad theres a chance i could have the tank next week. Im gonna start mocking up the plumbing tomorrow. I know it wont be set in stone but maybe it'll shave some time off the actual build.

The anticipation is killing me so last night i started messing around with the plumbing to get an idea of how it will all fit together and get a visual. At first i thought it would be a waste of time but kept find things i didnt like and changed some things around.

I cut some small sections of pipe so most of it would hold together hopefully all i have to do whwn the tank arrives is cut the correct measurements and put it back together. Let me know what you guys think.

I want to have unions coming right out of the bulkheads. Was thinking that getting both siphon drains to align with the 2 inch tee could be a hassle so i figure i could loosen the union twist the pipe and re tighten it. Ball valves before the tee then into the 2 inch gate back out to the two sock holders on each side.

The E drains again unions coming out of the bulk head to 45° elbows, to the balve valve, then into the sump.

The pumps and pond boxes with be rigjt next to each other covered in laundry bags/bio

Pump will be connected by a threaded x slip adapter to a union, then check valve and 45s up to another union at the bulkhead.

Came up with these to configurations for the returns. The returns are going come up through the overflow and back into the tank throug the top on the side panels of the tank towards the middle (ends of the tank). I like the 1st option. I can add a lenght of pipe and extend each end. And probably less likely a polypterus will hot one of the loc lines and move it. Just a tee out of the bulkhead connected to 90°s then to loc line nozzles
