Looking at purchasing a 300 gallon 96x30x25.

What size sump would I need? I'd rather more filtration then not enough. Will be housing 2 hystrix rays, and possibly a few of my pbass as they get larger.

I will have a canister filter running also, but want to do a sump as well.

Can someone recommend a sump size, and a pump as well.

Thanks!

A 55 or 75 would work well. Easy to find a used one cheap.

I have a 50G sump with a mag 9 but I would have gone bigger if I had more room under my stand. Ideally 75G plus.

The problem with a 55 is you have to keep the water level so low to compensate for power outages that you only have 25G in your sump at any one time.

To compensate I have a closed loop with a 40W UV and mechanical filtration that pushes 1800 GPH.

A 90 with a mag 18 would be great with your tank.

i have a 90g on my 400. size is just right. so a 55-75 would be fine for your 300 IMO

I got a 55g loaded with about 20-25g of bioballs with a mag 24 pushing back into tank and a mag 18 just going to a spraybar over media recirculating the water in the sump and also a FX5
