300...rise of an empire, movie trailer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's right.

Are the producers of 300 also the producers of Spartacus? The blood part is kinda corny true but I do like their style. All the blood and gore and sex and language is exaggerated evenly and I can see how that turns some people off. It looks like the movie is going to be pretty sweet

Whatever that is, don't call it a historical film :P

LOL
well....duh!
:)
history is tortured in many ways in the details of these movies...but at the same time the overall historical info is more or less correct.
But it is made as 'entertainment' not as a "historical documentary filmed in real time"

The worst part of the first film was to switch roles between Sparta and Persia. After all Sparta was a tyrannical, perverted slaveholder society. While Persia was the land of freedom, tolerance, equality.

a long time ago my minor in college was ancient history.
If the spartans and the rest of the Greeks ( Athens etc) had lost these battles then western civilization would have been extinguished in its cradle..philosophy, art, literature, architecture, maths, science, medicine.....not to mention the Spartans being still considered by military historians to be among the finest warriors ever.
Oh...and one other small thing...Democracy!
It is not clear whether the ancient Persians themselves kept slaves, but certainly several other nations under their rule at that time, such as Egypt and Babylon, did keep slaves..so what's the real difference?
Perverted?.....hmmmmm I think I know what you are referring to but I'll wait for you to make it more plain before I respond further to that.
Tyrannical? abso-frikkin-lutely.
the Battles of Thermopylae and Salamis were 480 BCE, just wondering what was happening in Japan at that time? LOL
.....so lets not throw stones here :) the whole world was a brutal place in that epoch. ( still is!)

art, literature, philosophy, math, science and medicine were also common in evry other high culture. Be it persia, egypt, china, japan, mayan or Inka. Persia had a tolerance policy. man and women equal, and King Cyrus intrudced human rights. Cultural Persia did stand lightyears ahead over greece. Greece backwardness was the main reason why it could never hold a large empire over much time.

Sparta saw women as animals, 60% of the population was enslaved, babies that did not match expectations were killed and slaves were murdered en mass. Thats what i mean with perverted.

Democracy is something i don´t think to good about. But thats a cultural thing. You may have another opinion about that. I respect that.

What Japan did around 480 BCE? It was in the last years of the emperor Itoku, the fourth emperor of Japan. It is an interesting part of Japanese history because it was the beginning of our empire. Not only as national entity but also the start of our people. The Yayoi people from the south of Japan started mixing with the Jomon people from the north, forming what we are today. It is also first time we make a step into the world and are mentioned more from outside scources like China.

I wanna see it! If its even half as good as the first one, it'll still be a good movie. The first one was pure badass violence and action and I loved it.

"Spartans! Ready your breakfast and eat hearty.... For tonight WE DINE IN HELL!!!! "

So "your people" started out by mixing cultures from different regions? Doesn't that go against like half the posts you make on here? I guess it's ok to you if it was a long time ago, but to mix cultures now is wrong?

Are you SURE your name isn't Darius?

And for the movie, I thought they did show in the beginning that different/non idealistic babies were killed by the Spartans. It's just entertainment based on historical events, we can't put today's values on something that happened thousands of years ago.

I´m pretty sure of that. I also never said mixing cultures is wrong. I said it´s rarely working but i don´t judge over your country. Your nation can do what it pleases. It´s not my business. In Japan the mixture was extremly violent. Both original cultures got completly annihilated and it took around 200 years till that entire process was settled.

Responding privately as to not derail this thread... although if both cultures were annihilated, maybe someone should make that into a movie.

I'm looking forward to this 300 sequel as pure entertainment, as was the first. I hope it's as fun to watch.

Nicey put....too bad this wont be a summer release.

Of course there were never any atrocities in Japan, or from Japanese soldiers right Akuma?

There are many many Japanese ex-patriots, large populations, who live in the US, Brazil and other countries who 'mix' just fine.
They usually left Japan due to the rigidity of Japanese society. And we know that trees that don't bend break eventually. Japan may resist integration but the homogenization of mankind is an inevitability
The winners get to write history, which is why you learn English in school in Japan!
