Yes the shelf is just acting as a ledge for potted plants and to act as some form of retention in case of a jumping....or walking fish. But I might go a little bit lower with the walls to make viewing a small bit easier.
I can barely even speak about the Blue Dolphin Catfish lol, I have been searching for these fish for years. Came close one time but they never came in.
The pink tailed chalceus are nice, I have kept them in the past and they would be easier to view from above and they would fill out the mid water level, with the walking cats being at the bottom and butterfly fish at the top.
But the rainbow suggestion is interesting as well, never really thought of going with a bright schooling fish.
