cant i just drill two holes in the back and plumb it to the sump that way?

That is basically what you are doing, but you need to make sure that the plumbing through the back of the tank is adequate for the pumps you are running.

size _GPM __GPH
1/2 = 2.50 = 150
3/4 = 5.63 = 337.5
1.0 = 10.0 = 600
1.25=15.6 = 937.5
1.5 = 22.5 = 1350
2.0 = 40.0 = 2400

Min. Vertical Length
1/2 = 2"
3/4 = 5"
1.0 = 9"
1.25= 14"
1.5 = 20"
2.0 = 36"

this is the max flow youd get outta the pipes

You are probably going to need at least 2 1.5" PVC pipes in order to keep up with those pumps. To be safe, you might want to go with three in case one was to get plugged up.

i agree i got 2 1.5" with 1850 gph and its perfect

You can buy them just about anywhere. Premium Aquatics is a good site. A lot of your good local fish stores should have them, especially if they have a salt section or aquarium maintenance business as well.

I'm assuming that the chart is based on I.D not O.D for the pipe right?

Yes, that is calculated for the I.D. if I remember correctly.
