I Just finished the skeleton of my 300 stand.. What does MFK think? Do you think the 48" gap will cause any issues? More support or will i be ok? Input is greatly appreciated :)

Ill be updating it after all the ply is put on and its painted and the hardware is added..

You can ship that to my house when your done, lol....It looks good....most of the weight will be on the 4x4's.....i would trust that...

How much in materials?

Lol thanks, its not even looking that good yet still need ply, paint, and hardware lol.. I would say around 120 bucks. Still need the ply for inside,top,front, and sides, and hardware. Already have the paint from last stand build.

Would be nice for a couple more people to second that. What worry's me is that 48" gap. What's everyone else think.

Because you have a 4x4 on each side of the 48" opening and the cross bracing above that done in 2X6's I think it would be fine esp if you also add a sheet of ply across the top. Is the large open area for a sump around a 55-75g tank size?

large open area is for a 55 that i already have other side ill put the sump. And its going to be plyed on all sides and top.

Still want some more people saying it will hold, it's comforting to hear lol. It will hold 10 ornatum that I already have and 7 festae all growing from 2". In the long run Im hoping to have pair of each and bunch of dithers.

i don't unerstand something. why doesn't anyone ( or hardly anyone ) use joist hangers? wouldn't that be the best way to support the 2x6's that span front to back? even compared to the L brackets and the screws that are holding in from the front and back? just a question i am not saying your design wont work. i really like the space for the smaller tank underneath.

Thanks dave, i don't have much experience. Only built one other stand for a 150. I got all my plans and ideas off of mfk. I dont even know what a joist hanger is lol

What would be the point of joist hangers? Most people Adhere and Screw the Frame together which is more than enough... Joist hangers are more of a "building code" thing in my eyes.. Any weight is still being focused on the fasteners, whatever is used. Hangers support the joist... Fasteners support the hanger. If anything, it's just extra unnecessary weight and money that's not needed...

The joists are not really even supporting as much as the edges of the framing. They are more for structural stability. Unless one is using the stand for an Acrylic tank which needs that joist support underneith but I still see no need for hangers.

JMO though...
@OP,

Nice Stand framing by the way! I would think that you'd be just fine with the 2x6 there! That adds a lot of Tensions Strength!
