300G SW... Finally it's up and running

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Tank looks dope! Love those Hydor pumps, I use a couple myself. Now, a couple of Q's, is that water just sort of boiling out of your skimmer? That is gonna create a friggin mess over time with splashing! Can't you get that under water some how? Also, I would spend $50 and some time and clean up the underneath. Salt gets very dangerous when mixed with electricity and such. The plumbing from the Iwaki needs a lot of work! Not much money, just a little re-do effort, trust me, it will pay for itself over time if you ever have to work on the system. Nice tank, what are you going to keep in it?

ah the berlin method... what are you planning to keep? a shark?

Thanks all for the compliments. I was aiming to get a shark with this FOWLR setup, but now I'm rethinking what I want to put in it.

Thanks bro. They Hydors look nice, but I think they are definitely overrated as far as gph. They are not producing enough movement as I would like.

As far as the skimmer goes I was having trouble calibrating it to skim right. With that it was splashing a bit, but very little was splashing outside. When I have some time this coming weekend I will play around again with it and will definitely make it so that no water is splashing out.

As far as salt with electricity I'm aware of the danger, but thank you for mentioning that. This coming weekend my buddy who is an electrician is coming over and will be creating a new circuit for just my tank and I will fix any possible threats.

The plumbing had to be modified after it was underneath in tank and because of that it's not the greatest. I will be redoing it within the month.

I know I came off as jerk, it is just that I do this stuff everyday and I hate seeing sloppy plumbing... b/c I HAVE DONE IT myself and payed for it every time! :)

you are right about the flow, at least as direct current, I like them b/c the suction holds and they run dry without breaking, I use them to oxygenate tanks.

I was looking forward to seeing some sharks man. hahaha

No problem I didn't take it as that. I'm open to constructive criticism.

We will see.

sharks in a 300 gallon? please don't. Maybe banded sharks or port jacksons.. But pretty much every other shark commercially available will get too big for even a 300 gallon.

a coral cat or two will be great in there. maybe a brownbanded bamboo for a good while. whitespotteds would be a nice choice as well. most of the "aquarium" [bamboos, cats,] sharks will find that tank very comfortable.

I will see like I said and I'm not going to throw in a shark of any kind without doing research, much less house it in the 300 gallon tank forever. Thanks for your concern.
