300gal Plywood tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've kept RTM with just about anything. They have their mood swings but in a tank the size of yours you don't have much to worry about.

I don't have the tank yet its being built right now, but as soon as i get it ill have pics for you guys.

So currently im thinking this is my stock:

1 jag
1 green terror
1 salvini
1 argentea
1-2 loisellei
1 red devil or trimac (this one im going to try wish me luck!)

Would you think a cat armoured to the 9's like a niger cat would work?
What do you guys think about a arowana as a nice addition? is this a possibilty?
I would like something extra that could live in there fine and thats not a cichlid.

The stock list looks sweet to me. I'd personally go with a couple Cichla, and probably half of what you have up. A Niger cat might get a little big for that tank!

Red devils aren't quite as insane as the midas/trimacs from what i read.

I don't know where you read that, but RD's are every bit as insane and in most cases moreso. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't try it I just want you to know what you are getting. The Red Devil that I havecame from a 300g community and she was getting along fine with it's tank mates. They included a pair of Jags, BlackBelt, synocats, and other Red Devils. It can be done, but alot depends on the personality of the individual fish.

I've never considered cichla before. Those are the peacock pass right? Those things get a little to big lol.

Hmm whats the max size of a niger cat? I heard they grow extremely slow after they hit a foot. I'll go do some more research on catfish, i would like something that would be ok with the large baddies.

Hmm.. mybe i should try a trimac i was thinking red devils were a little less crazy! Its just a saw a red devil at the LFS that was in a tank with about 5-7 others and it was bright white with dark red markings on its lips over its eye and on the fins, it wasn't chasing any of the others seemed like more of a laid back fish.
