Going to have a North American tank. Looking for suggestions on what to stock it with. Will b 300gal, have a red eared slider and yellow belly slider, and I'd prefer no one thats a tough keeper. Probably something that has the same environmental requirements as the turtles. Large fish do best with my turtles, so something above 10in. There's SO many different options. Bring on the suggestions!

wow ow you have my dream tank so I'll definitely help you. Let's see....so many options. Green sunfish, large and/or smallmouth bass, crappie (black or white), white bass, bullheads (yellow, brown, or black), a few yellow perch, a channel catfish, grass or Redfin pickerel. Sorry, I'm getting carried away. If you pick a few out of those bunch I'll help you compile some stocking lists.

Yea if the wife ever allows a big tank I'd do a native tank that size as well. I'd think a few RES with a bunch of bigger sunfish (pumpkinseed), one or two smallmouth / largemouth bass, and two or three bullheads would be awesome.

What I think would be fun too is to breed minnows in the sump of the tank and toss them in as snacks.

What I REALLY want to add to that tank is a shovelnose sturgeon. They don't get that big or heavy so could be kept in a 500 or so for life, but all I can ever find available to buy are either sterlets or lake sturgeon which are way way bigger :(

So. I think I've narrowed my options down. A gar, some sunfish, and a small or large mouth bass. I'm not 100% but. Those r my main choices. Just need to find sellers with reasonable prices now i guess :)

Are there any native algae eaters? A native fish who will take the place of a pleco

Central Stoneroller should be a good choice. However all gar species are illegal in Washington so it's risky move to buying an illegal fish and post pictures on this forum....your choice.

Planning on moving soonish anyway. So. It wouldn't b an issue :)

I would go with Pumpkinseeds, the Southern spotted Brown Bullhead, golden Shiners, and some Northern Studfish, Lake Chubsuckers are omnivores but I am told that they help keep algae under control in ponds in the south.
