Looks really good. I am building a similer stand although spanning 17' along the wall in my garage to sit an 8' and a 6'. I have gone with 4x2 and 4x4 also and I am going to span gaps of just over 4'.

Good job... stand is looking very nice. Cross brace and mid support should do it! Be sure to post up finalized stages.

Re-Malawi set up
It,s been 1.5 years to get from building the stand to finishing! Idiot that built the tank for me did a bad job and it leaked last summer, destroying my oak floor. A new floor, tank and distresed wife later we were back on track. 60 fish so far, a few more to go...
