The reason for water changes isn't only to control nitrAtes and minerals/metals build up in the water but hormones released by the fish which is overlooked by a lot of people. So as many have suggested weekly/biweekly PWC are still very important. Another reason would be all the waste and food build up in/on the substrate over time will start to affect PH.
