300ish Gallon plywood - First attempt

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love the plywood build threads, I wish I had found this place long ago. I have a 225 started and will have a build thread soon. Great work.

"I have a plan. No idea if it will work yet. Wait an see I guess."

I'd try using just the liquid rubber.

It flows down hill on the glass but it will dry and harden eventually.

Disclaimer: I went over the silicon and glass with the rubber... it took a lot of coats to find and cure a slow leak.

This paint is a little thinner then the "liquid rubber" stuff. it probably wouldn't bridge the gaps very well.

Has anyone tested liquid nails on acrylic?

I really don't like using liquid nails. It most cases it's too damn strong. And I think acrylic is too smooth a surface for it to bond strongly to. But I could be wrong.

Ahhh Ok.

We will wait and see how you overcome this...

Havent been on here in months,

Just read through the whole thread and wow :D I love it Great work, this build seems to be done alot simpler than many others i have seen that use a lot of framing etc etc, I cant wait to see how this works out. Keep it up

The sump has been holding water for 2-3 days now no issues. One of my cats even jumped in it by accident and splashed around clawed the side to get out. No issues. the paint held up. It seems to have soaked into the wood so it has a bit of wood grain texture to it but is very waterproof. Water still beads off it easily.

In other news I am cleaning up a 55 gallon for a planted show piece in the house and I got myself a new pleco to go in the 55. He is currently hanging out with one of my Krib pairs. He is a beautiful L007. Commonly called Galaxies. But this one was labeled as a "Vampire Pleco" which is the other name for them. My LFS was unloading their new fish so I got first peak and took him before he even hit the water. He is very dark, nearly black, with the white spots. The L007s commonly are a dark brown. But this one is near black. Looks great.

I saw that your 55 has the middle support broken and your going to make it in to a rimless show tank. How are you going to do that and not have it bow out. I currently have a 55 that someone cut the support out and has been set up for about a year now. I have noticed that it is bowing and getting worse. I have been looking for replacement tanks but if there is another solution I wanna try it.
Your build is great, cant let my husband see it.

I have no Idea what Muni's plans are but rather than replacing your tank I'd reccomend talking with your LFS. You can usually order a new rim for a 55 for less than thirty bucks.
