Would a 300w heater be sufficient for a 100G (filtered with 2078 & FX5)?
If I used 2 what size would be advisable?
I know this is an easy question to some but I'd appreciate your help

Better to have two placed on each side.........Two 200w-250w heaters.......Or if you have the money, go with two 300w's..........Later on, you can place these large heaters in other large tanks, and not worry about watt shortage.............

also need to know temp of room at coldest time the rating on heater is only rated at 68 learned the hard way with a nasty case of ich with tank in basement. so i keep 150watts in 20 gallon at 60

I'm using a 300w for my 100g and its fine, I say go for it :P

It depends on how cold the room is going to be. I currently have a 300W on my 40g. Last week the house got down to 60, and even though the heater was set on 80 it only got the tank as high as 75 degrees. If your house is close to the temp you want your tank at, I'd say 300W is fine, but if your place will be cold then I'd get two.

You have to guage the situation of your tank as oppose to the gallons. I keep my house a 72F year round, my Trimac's are on an ouside wall with gental air movement in the room via fan I keep a 100w heater in the 29g sump of a 90g set at 78F and the tank stays at 78-79 all winter and will hit 80-82 in the summer without the heater ever switching on. My 125g salt tank with 500w of lighting however I have no heater in and even with extra fans and no heater its all I can do to keep the tank a steady 76-77F. If you keep your house a steady 75F all the time and your tank is covered you might not need a heater at all.

your title says 300g, but you say a tank size of 100g..which one? thatll help

Agreed. What are we even talking about. A 300 watt heater will do fine for a 100 tank, I would get two though on each side though (not another 300 watt). Just in case one craps out. For a 300 gallon tank though it won't work nearly as well.
