I've begun to do some preliminary research for building an ar-15 and have noticed that in .223/5.56 most components are interchangeable but every .308/7.62 component states that any compatibility with another manufacturer is pure coincidence. I would like to do .308 but since arts are significantly less common and not as interchangeable I'm wondering if a .308 would be best store bought and if i should stick to .223 if i want to build. I am more of a handgun guy so this will be my first and probably only rifle and my goal is to buy/build the most accurate piece within my budget.

You're looking for information on building an ar-15 in The Lounge of a fish website... Does it sound as a good idea?

There are several members that are very knowledgeable on the subject matter and have personally done a similar build. The biggest reason I chose mfk is that by reading other members threads for over a year, I know which members give the best advice and which ones just pass on things they've heard without really knowing how accurate the information truly is. If I were to go to a firearm form it would take some time before I felt comfortable trusting someones oppinion.

I like the ar 15 the ar 10 is very ammo finicky you have to use high quality were with the 15 you can shoot almost anything. It really depends on what you are using it for also.

i suggest not buying a gun at all. people will think you are a terrorist or something. buy some socks or a sweater since the cold months are coming.

I live in Indiana, not having guns make you look suspicious here. Since I already have pistols and a shotgun I'd like to learn the rifle so that i can have a well rounded collection.
