Should I get my native fish from a pond or a creek for my native 30gal? I ask this because with the creek I can stock darters, minnows, sculpin, and crayfish. But if I took from a pond I think i could keep maybe perch, sunfish, and blue gill. So what do you think is a better idea? Ahd how many fish could I get away with in there?

I think you're going to have a masochistic time maintaining good water quality in a 30gal with any decent stocklist of natives. Pond animals are accustomed to somewhat less-than-ideal situations and ought to fare a little better in a 30 gal. Best of luck! :)

If its a warm water creek, definately the creek (but you may need some powerheads for the darters and some minnow species), if its a coldwater creek (springfed) I would go with the pond, but I must warn you Bullhead and Bluegill will outgrow you 30 gallon pretty quickly. O-spot sunfish or Northern Longear will live comfortably in a 30.....so will darters and many minnows (just dont put them in with a sculpin).

i would either get some sticklebacks or bullheads from a pond, and if you really want some sculpins i heard some places sell em as bait i don't know where right now. i have 2 brown bullheads at the moment and they're happy as can be.

Bullheads will out grow it wont they? And i think ill go with the creek, its not spring fed. It runs into Beaver Creek a big creek, and it doesn't have mirax contamination like Beaver Creek does. And should I add a powerhead?

Make sure you check your creek water temps so you know where to place your tank. Most Darters and many creek minnows do better with a powerhead.....if you get crayfish many kinds will eat your darters unless you know your crawdads I wouldnt recommend it. I also wouldnt get Mosquitofish or any of the more aggressive Chubs (Creek Chubs , Redspot chubs etc.) but many shiners and topminnows coexist real well with Darters.

Yes bullheads will outgrow a 30. They can grow to 12"+ (depending on species) and chunky! I would definately add a powerhead for fish from the creek.

Ok, Ill add a powerhead.

But will common creek crayfish kill minnows if I keep them well fed? And what about sculpin?

i have a mottled sculpin in my 10 gallon tank with guppies..hes about 2 inches and has recently found out how to shove a hole male guppy in to his gut, witch i did not think possible, but no dead body and a very full Sculpin was all the proof i needed,
i wouldn't recommend them unless you dont have anything that you think might fit in to his mouth, or anything smaller then it seems, hes only about 2 inches now can get to 6''...
he ate the guppy even after a big meal of bloodworms the day before
..love sculpins but maybe not for a community tank , unless you don't mind restocking what it eats
