Just wondering if this tank size is large enough for either species of knife.

Saw a tank full of brown knives yesterday and fell in love. and I've got an empty 35 and I really want either a brown or black knive. Would it be ok to house more than one together? I've heard mixed things on keeping more than one knife, some say %100 no and others say its fine.

The brown knives at my LFS are very outgoing, swimming about the tank constantly, sometimes resting at the bottom of the tank, but seem more active than the black knives that nestle themselves into the plants and sti perfectly still.
So, I'd have to say I'm more interested in brown knives at this point...

Any help would be great, as I've never kept a knife before.
Thanks. :)

African Brown Knives are pretty peace. You can probably keep some in a small group. An empty 35g you can probably keep a few, providing you have a good filteration system.

I really like the african brown knives, they just seem alot more out and about thank BGK's.

What about say, 3 for this tank? I'm going to have a few plants, and then make some caves from slate(Would do PVC, but it just doesnt look right with the plants)

Sound good?

Sounds good. They grow to an average of 8" so you might have to upgrade later.

Thats fine, I've got a 55G with some africans in it, theyre pretty chill though and never messed with the two plecos I had in with them for a year.

Cant wait to get my knives, Theyre so awesome!

Just gotta get my plants set-up and I'll get 'em. I'll have to post pics when I do..

go for it, thats a little smaller than my tank and i had a brown knife in there for a while.

Cool.
:D
The tank doesnt even have water in it ATM. But I might get it filled up saturday, and start cycling.

Process ios going slow, dont even have the tank filled!
Gotta get that done pretty soon.

But, I was thinking about the final stocking and was wondering, instead of having three knives, what about just one knife and 3x African Butterflys? Will the butterflys do well with the knife? Are they known jumpers? My tank top is pretty open because I have a HOB filter(AC110) but I could do a ghetto quick fix and put a towel or something else over the gap until I can get a new hood.

Thoughts?

The African Butterflies would be fine. They will jump, so a new hood would be a good thing. I once had an African theme going. I had an African Brown Knife, 6 Congo Tetras, a Senegal Bichir, and an African Butterfly. It was a fun tank!
