310g Square?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah those dimensions arent too good for most pbass, definitely no tems/pinima/azul. try some of the smaller/slower growing species like orinos, kelberis, etc. but even then, all of these can reach 20" eventually. when you think about 5 20" fish in a 4x4 box, it can seem a little crowded

this is my research, im joining the service and this will be a project afterwards so were looking at 3+ years. ive kept fish for the past 6 years, but none requiring more than a 125. all solo predatory fish. i want a bright vibrant tank but with fish that will still hit food the second i drop it in the tank.

plus being a bass angler my whole life i always remember watching fishing shows about ten years ago where they would go to south america and catch these huge beasts.

and i know they arent true bass. so save that comment.

You cant over filter a cichla tank. They do create a ton of waste, really after a big feed. If I feed my fish heavily I can get a small ammonia spike for about 24 hours. I use a 55g acrylic sump that is almost all bio. Mechanical and bio is most important IMO. I only use carbon for about a week after a water change to get any impurities out since I use tap water. My tank is pretty well filtered and when I vac the gravel I still get a ton of waste out.

thanks. ok so do they like a taller tank? i know bigger is better but could i get away with a 24" tall tank or would it really be better to go 30-36"

how does 72x40x30tall sound?

taller tanks are awesome. and yes, you better believe cichla will use ALL the height in a tank. 24" tanks seem way too short to me now. i love my 72x36x36, wont ever get another tank thats less than 36" tall
