32 Gallon discus tank???????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the tank will be set up in a few days. i have a bio-sphira pack that i just bought that is for up to 90-Gallons and i will drop all that in the filter(more than enough) i will add the corys and some tetras than i will have to choose weather to get the discuss....or to get something else. i work at my LFS and i fed him today and he was very skittish and would not touch the food when i was around.(bad sighn but i hope it can be fixed)...... i think i will take the risk deppending on how well he eats in the next couple of days!!!!!! if he does not eat well than ill wait for the next shiptment of "red Turquoise discus" and ill buy 1 then. but if i think he is ok i will pick him up on friday and cross my fingers. i hope he eats. another thing is that he is not TOO expensive and i get a 40% discount...... he is $30 and i only have to pay about 18$ for him with the discount.

ill have more questions tomorrow.....lol

happy new year guys and thanks for the help fo far..... :)

ok so the tank will be like this...........

-Gravel Substrate(i know i have to do weekly gravel vacks... and i don't mind)
-Some Fake and Some Real Plants(hardy/ low light plants)
-Normal lighting
-some driftwood
-Aqua Clear 70 as a filter
-250Watt heater

will this be fine??? i have seen people keep discus With gravel with much succes and i think it will work for me too.

any suggestions?????

my LFS has their Discus PH at 6.5 and my PH is at 7.2 how do i acclimidate the discus so he does not get too much stress??? the tank will be cycled with bio-sphira....

thanks

Our goal as fish keepers should be to have conditions that our fish can trive, not just survive. Discus are not solitarie fish, you may be able to keep that poor fish in your set up, but is that what's best for the discus? Wtih all the choices of fish out there I really think you should reconsider.

Does the LFS you work at sell an acid buffer, why not adjust your tank pH to 6.5?

i have a 32 gallon that i want to stock with a discus. in a couple of days i will get a "Red Torquois Discus"....... he is about 3"......... i have heard that the tank is too small for more than one full grown discus????????? i have heard that they need to be paired up or in groups b/c they don't do well alone??? i want to add an angelfish too(smaller than the discus) and a group of schooling fish.

can i just have a explanation of what i need to do to keep him healthy and to keep him happy????

here are the tank contents.....

-32 Gallon
-Natural Gravel.....
-Real "Elodia" ---and Fake Plants--- and maybe a real anubias...
-Normal light strip that came with the tank (less than 2 watts Per gallon)
-Aqua Clear 70 HOB filter

what do i need to keep the water soft??????

can someone help me out please????

thank you

The max you can put in there are two Discus. That stocking would be fine. I spawn my pair in a 29 and they're huge and happy.

You wouldn't be able to put anything else in there though. It would be too tight.
Also, you don't have to keep the water soft. All of my Discus are in tap water (except the breeding pair) the main concern is nice high temperature, CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN water, and a STABLE pH.
All bets are off though if you buy a wild, or a Discus not raised in city water. Most breeders now spawn in soft water and raise the fry in tap water so you should be fine. Just check with the seller first.

1 discuss.... 2 corys and some tetras and a algea eater. only about 7 fish
NOPE. If you want Discus in a 32, it's two Discus and nothing else. Sorry.

The Discus rule is 2, or 4 or more but never 3.

is there any way i can have one discus in a 32 gallon with sand, good filtration, once a week 1/3 waterchanges, and only a few other fish as tankmates besides the discus????
Not if you want it to live out it's normal lifespan.

i saw a red tourquois discus and it was amazing and i want it so any way i can have him in this tank for life???? ????
See above.

just tell me what i need to do to keep him alone in this tank for life???????
NOTHING. Alone is not a viable option if you want health and good color and a long life.

Two would do fine.

thanks for the late replies guys but i have already made my decission. i left the discus alone and now i have a community with angels rams and kuhli loaches. (no discus)

Can a Mod close this thread now!!!!!!!???
