Hi all,

I have the opportunity of buying an ornate in Australia (very rare over here).

Problem is, I still live at home and therefore only have one display tank that is 4x1.5x2. I've got a 3D background (see pics in the media subforum) so it's less than 1.5 feet at parts.

The ornate is 32cm female (no idea what age, any rough idea on this?). When I get my own house (1-2 years from now) I will bet a larger tank with the idea of breeding.

The ornate will be in with a smaller male senegal (25cm) and some butterfly fish and tetra congos.

Will she be ok for 2 years before rehousing or is it best to pass on this opportunity?

Getting another tank at this stage is completely out of the question.

Cheers,

Andrew

that size tank wouldnt be too bad for 1 ornate.

at least give it a standard 150-180g :) or even a 135g WIDE tank because bichirs perfer floor space rather than height.

a 135g wide is 4ft length x 3ft width x 1.5 ft height

if getting another tank is out of the question, probably not a good idea man
where is this for sale, whats the price on it mate? nice to no there a couple around!

Another tank is out of the question for two years. I'll house him in a much larger tank then. Still a no?

Can't comment on price as I've sworn to the seller not to divulge. It's a bit political in the fish keeping community here in Perth lol

Ornate bichirs are predatory.
Sure, you can keep the ornate in that tank.

It's possible that the ornate may eat the congo tetras, butterflies, and the senegal.
But you'll have a happy ornate!

My ornate has eaten 2 clown loaches, 4 congo tetras,5 buenos aires tetras, 1 tiger barb so far.
Vile experimentations.
