+1 to that, in a 4' square tank a big aro is going to constantly be chasing it's tail. 30" aro = 8' length for swimming at the very least.

I see what you mean but it wouldn't be literally chasing its tail, each side is 18" longer than him.
So the adult fish can't even swim the length of its body before having to turn, I certainly wouldn't want to keep a large active fish like that. I disagree with the sticky, 6' length isn't enough for any 30" arowana, regardless of species. I'm watching my 13" black aro swim lengths of my 140cm long tank as I type this and trying to imagine him twice the size in a tank shorter than the one he is in now, I certainly wouldn't be happy with it.
