  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes, i do know alot about turtles. as ive owned many from 1" musks to 30 pound snappers and everything in between. if he plans on using the fish and food only, then go ahead. but the way he said it sounded like he wants to put fish in there for decorations also.

Even if he puts fish in there as decoration, they will become food. So it'll be a lesson learned and won't really affect much in the tank.

I always have a large amount of fish in the pond, usually just regular feeders of all sizes. They will def eat many of them and they will always chase them around which is good exercise. But after awhile and there is a certain amount in the pond, they dont chase them as much and live with them. Eating on time to time. Im not to worried about overstocking because the filter is pretty large. And since its off the ground i can syphon the pond and filter which will make cleaning a lot easier.

The pond is crowded as is, but i built the setup to allow me to expand in the future. The filter is large enough to handle a second pond. I also have a very large pool/pond pond that is hooked up but not running, and it could easily run two ponds.

doest matter how big the filter is, each turtle should have 250 gal. i would try to find homes for all but 2 or 3.

Dude, what are you smoking?

The turtles are fine in this tank... yeah, it wouldn't hurt them to have a bigger tank, but they are completely happy and healthy, and it's like a paradise compared to what most RES are kept in.

And I have 2 DBT- there is NO way 2 of my turtles would get 500 gallons.

They have 110 gallon stock tank, and they are just happy as can be.

Ideally all of the turtles should be in huge ponds or lakes or something. But i didn't buy any of these turtles, they were all taken in over the last ten years.

Some have came from 10 gallon tanks sitting in bathrooms or kitchens. Some came from decent setups but were only 20-60 gallons. Some care in poor shape because the people decided to finally give them up after they got sick or something.

A good amount were brought to my by friends that have seen my ponds. They have friends or family with turtles in pad setups or unwanted and will over bring to me.

I have found a few homes over time but usually i take in more then i can find homes.

Ive consider local lakes/huge ponds if i needed to reduce numbers or stop fighint. I would assume they would do fine with going from my backyard pond to a large pond or lake since there is already so many water turtles that people have dropped off there.

I think the tank is great and would be able to handle a few fish of his choosing. I agree with MSHILL90 most RES are kept in little tanks with poor filtration. I think this is an amazing improvement then the 90 they were in Great JOB!!!

who said anything about DBT's? im sure your turtles arent as big as the RES in this pond. their size plays a factor to. sure, you could probably keep all these turtles in the 250 if they were hatchlings are juvies. but these look large, and they need alot of swimming space. i think you need to research turtles a bit more.

My DBT's are 10"+ So, they are remotely just as large as these RES. Not to mention that DBTs are even messier than RES, and DBTs are strictly carnivores.

I think you should stop flaming this guy. He made an awesome set up.

I smell jealousy... ;)
