357 recoil out of a snub would be painful. thats from shooting a 38spl snub. depending on how much you shoot, look into reloading.

Ammo cost and comfort are not big issues for me, this will be my primary carry piece and I'll only shoot it enough to remain competent at 7yds or less my .40 and .22 will get the bulk of my use at the range. The ability to shoot both .357 and .38spl is what I like about the .357. My biggest hang up is whether the .357 is worth the extra $400 they run versus the .38.

Hello; I have found the recoil of a 357 magnum round to be significant in a steel k framed S&W. I often practice with 38 special rounds. I have used the 38+p in a 357 pistol and find it to be a reasonable compromise between recoil and muzzel energy. One point is that with a 357 pistol you have the option of using the 38 special loads, the 38+p loads and the 357 loads in the same gun.
I strongly suspect that a 38+p load will be plenty of stopping power for self protection.

IMHO the .357 is worth the extra dough. But that is a lot of power coming out of a snubbie. But if comfort isn't a concern, then do it. Just realize that a .357 indoors or at night(bedside) is going to stun you as well as the BG. So I would primarily keep it loaded with .38+p anyway.

I would go with the. 38 spl if your trying to save some cash. Personally if it was for low cost ill go with the .40 glock or .22 snub. Just to keep as personal protection. I have a .22 snob that I gave to my wife to keep in the house. She loves it

I realy like a sig for the price. But If you shoot tons of rounds look into somthing
that lasts like a polygonal barrel on a non magnum cartridge. I like railed with a
light for clearing animals from around my houses perimiter.

I've shot a long barrel s&m .357, awesome but not the best accuracy, Atleast for me. I believe .38 ammo is more expensive.

My current carry firearm is a glock 26. My next firearm, gen 4 glock 26, that's how much I love em even with 9mm
