Jewel cichlids from what I have heard are alot like convicts in terms of ease of breeding and aggression for such little fish. They are also more colorful than convicts and less common so they are cool to breed. They are like the african version of cons basically. I was thinking about getting a pair myself.

I figured that out, one i'm pretty sure I saw the first pic in an old tfk magazine, and the other had a website over the jewels head.

its definitely a female, males are darker in color, with a slightly longer and thinner body, as to where females are shorter and fatter with the bight red coloration, i have a breeding pair myself, there a good choice, good parents too
