I personally like the length of the 8 footer. But I like to have at least a 4ft wide tank as well! I'm pretty sure most people are thinking why Not get a 8x4 footprint! But due to space (well not really space) but having a big tank knowing I won't be living here long doesn't make sense to me. That's why I need something I know won't be too heavy and I could fit in a house or a condominium if I decide to move into one later. Actually considered another 6x3 but I already had that before so I scratched that out... Most likely I'll go with the 8x3 footprint

IF moving plays a factor (wieght) why not loose some of the unnecassary height to drop acrylic thickness. That way your 8x4X1.5 would weight the same if not less then a 8x3x2.

There's no way I could justify dropping loot on a brand new tank knowing full well the rays will outgrow it. I guess when your budget limited you only have one choice..... Do it right the first time. I bought a big used tank and had to wait 2+ years before I moved into a house big enough I could even set it up in. :(

I agree, what a nice dilema to have.

PS I still haven't recieved an pics :(

72x48x24 ;) I got one bro and it is AMAZING..... mine is a little taller however ODD like 25" I think and 1" thick

:headbang2 Very well said!

If you want the tank that's best for the RAYS it's a no brainer.

IF you want the tank that's best for YOU then it's different.

OH DB! sorry brotha I totally forgot about you! I'll take pics and send them to you as soon I get home! And also, I can't stand having such a shallow tank. Of course I would look into maybe putting a some mid swimmers or maybe a top swimmer. So I'm not cutting down on height. I actually wish I could go the 30" tall Which would be very nice "showy" tank... But like I said I'm trying to have this tank compact and mover friendly.

BTW I normally would be a cheap *** about spending crazy cash on a brand new tank and stuff, but my cousin builds tanks and he hooks it up pretty good! So that's the only reason why I don't mind.

Kk... Well a buddy is getting in a 72x48x24 in this week I'll see how it looks setup! Post pics of yours! I want to see

8'x3'=24ft2
6'x4'=24ft2

as far as the rays are concerned, both sizes are the same.personally, i'd do the 8x3..:D

Personally i would go the 8X4X? a 30 inch tall if you plan on having something cruizing above them makes a big diff when viewing i can tell ya .....

I got rid of the 6x4' in favor of the 8x3'. Sorry not a ray owner though.

Bottom surface:
96x36 = 3456
72x48 = 3456
The're the same. Better will be 72x48 in my opinion but it depends on how you decorate the aquarium. At this size you have more opportunities.
