If you feed a lot and do a lot of water changes you can grow out the fish at a pretty good rate (ie feeding 3 times a day, 2-3 water changes a week)

Generally no. The males will spend more time fighting than breeding.

One pair can yield 100-300+ fry every month..........The secret is having a growout tank ready for the fry........A 55 galoon tank will be fine for the fry when they hatch..........A growout tank enables the fry to be properly looked after without the parents fighting over them........You feed the fry yourself, 3-4 times a day, preferably on baby brine shrimp..........The fry do not become saleable size until about 7-8 weeks old........I like to keep 2-3 pairs from the first spawn to make more fry to sale/eat.........As a lover of the male nuchal hump, I like keeping a few males from each batch to grow out.................
