Okay, I know the footprint on these is bad for large fish. I picked this tank from a friend for free. So what could I put in their in the cichlid realm? I was thinking a breeding pair of cons or Honduran Red Points? What about an African Setup?

I dont know how accurate this is, but I pulled this measurement off some chart I found on google. Is this the same as your tank?

23 1/4 x 20 3/16 x 24 3/4 (in inches L x W x H)

If thats what your tank is, I say go with the Red Points, if not them, maybe some Apistos or rams with a tetra school.

not interested in angels, and discuss are too touchy for me. Would this work for Africans?

not really because they like to swin the length of the tank and not up and down i always tell my customes about tall tank not being good for any cichlid other than angels discus and dwarfs sorry boss maybea uaro might do okay in your tank

I may just put a breeding pair of cons in there. Not my favorite footprint, but hey...free tank!

Exactly...I would love to breed them for feeders.

HRP's would be just fine. Cons would work, I bet you could breed a pair of red jewels no problem. That way you could exp Africans.

what about severums you have not many options but no cons they are good for feeders IMO

My LFS has a big tall, thick 9-10" Severum in their 500 gallon showtank. It would get way too big for that hex but could live in there for a short while though. Hex tanks aren't good for much. They're more for guppies, tetras, mollies etc. It could be your hospital/quarantine tank.
